UPDATE: New wildfires in North Okanagan

UPDATE: July 24, 2023

The only North Okanagan wildfire of note today (July 24) is burning northeast of Enderby near the Shuswap River.

That fire, which was discovered on Friday, is at 6.2 hectares in size and classified as out of control.

Two other local fires that broke out over the last few days near Lossie Creek (0.3 hectares) and Sowsap Creek (4 hectares), both east of Armstrong, are now being held.

All three of the North Okanagan wildfires are believed to be lightning caused.

As of 10 a.m. July 24, there were 483 active wildfires in B.C. including 59 in the Kamloops Fire Centre.

The BC Wildfire Service is tracking two new wildfires in the North Okanagan.

One is burning east of Enderby, and east of Ashton Creek, near the Shuswap River and is 6.2 hectares.

That fire which was discovered Friday, July 21, is classified as out of control and suspected to be lightning caused.

Another is near Sowsap Creek, northeast of Armstrong, which is estimated at 4 hectares and out of control.

That one was discovered Saturday and is also thought to be lightning caused.

As of 12 p.m. Sunday there were 479 active fires in B.C including 61 in the Kamloops Fire Centre.
