Richard E. Waller aka Rick
December 26, 1942 – December 4, 2022
Predeceased by wife Karen (June 1, 2022) & son Lance. Survived by 3 children, 3 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild. Born to the crisp air of North Vancouver young Rick had a fascination for all things mechanical that never quit. A burgeoning thrill seeker and one too many nights at the port berths required a series of Catholic reform schools ultimately leading to an early career in frontier surveying. Flush with adult money Rick could be found boring out the cylinders of his latest motorcar for the extra kick of horsepower or feeling the thunder at the Mission drag strip.
His youthful shenanigans came to a halt when he met the love of his life. A northern prairie girl, Karen Neufeld, caught Rick’s heart and after a brief courtship, the two were wed spanning 50 golden years. Rick ran a moving company with his brother-in-law on Vancouver Island, obtained a class 1 driver’s licence which he cherished to no end, drove long haul, and eventually settled with SD#22 Vernon, B.C. running “The Big Truck” a bona fide family man. Both Rick & Karen found community in the charismatic Pentecostal faith and supported numerous organizations throughout their marriage. During their retirement years, they travelled overseas and spread the message in South America, Africa, and Asia. Sadly, in his later years, Rick developed dementia and slowly faded, however, towards the end of visits the meds would clear somewhat, a faint spark would appear and you could count yourself lucky to get an endearing Charlie horse.
The world seems a lesser place with Rick’s heart having passed beyond.Pleasant Valley funeral home will host a memorial on March 24, 2023, from 11:00 – 13:00.
