FORTIN, Elizabeth "Bette" Marguerite

It is with heavy hearts that we regret to announce the passing of Elizabeth “Bette” Marguerite Fortin on Sunday February 26th in Vernon, B.C at the age of 91 years. Born February 9th, 1932 in Edmonton, Alberta to Marcel and Lillian Laeser. Bette moved to Vancouver in the early 1950’s where she met her husband of 59 years Robert Lyle. They eventually moved to Quesnel, BC where they started their family, continuing on to Prince George, B.C. before settling in Vernon, in 1970 where they raised their 4 sons.
A long time resident of Vernon, Bette will be remembered for her love for cooking and entertaining, traveling, socializing, and her artistic talent (including teaching ceramics classes). She loved spending time travelling with her husband Lyle (Robert) and they were fortunate enough to see much of the world as well as many trips in their RV. Bette also took great pride in hosting large events, including her favorite annual New Year’s Day brunch party which always drew great reviews. She was also very active with her sorority Beta Sigma Phi, where she received the “Order of the Rose” Award for over 50 years of service as a loyal member.
Bette was predeceased by her brother Stan, her sister Helen and her loving husband Robert Lyle. She is survived by her 4 sons; Donald, Kelowna, B.C., Richard (Carolyn) Surrey, B.C., David (Mitzi) Lumby, B.C. and Frank (Stacy) Fulton, CA.; seven grandchildren, Robert, Elyse, Joshua, Rebecca, Tahni (Greg), Cali (Derek) and Cody as well as her great Grandson Fynnigan. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Alzheimer’s Society.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, March 24, 2023 at Pleasant Valley Funeral Home, 4303 Pleasant Valley Road, Vernon BC. A viewing will take place from 9-9:30, Service from 9:30-10:30, followed by burial at Coldstream Cemetery. A reception will be taking place in the “Banquet Room” at Alexander’s Beach Pub and Family Restaurant from 11:00 – 2:00 pm.
