Margaret (Maggie) Ann Perraton passed away peacefully in Vernon, BC on Feb 23, 2023.
Maggie was born on December 18, 1957 in Aberdeen, Scotland. Left to celebrate her life are her sons Patrick (Rachelle) and Robert: her husband Rhys; sisters Caroline Denning (Richard) and Kate Grant (Rhuary) – and her grandchildren Jasmine, William, Chelsea and Aubrey. Plus a few very good friends.
Predeceased by her beloved parents Robert and Audrey (nee Morris) Christie. Maggie was the eldest daughter of three girls. She grew up in Dyce, a small village near Aberdeen. She attended Dyce Primary, The Convent of the Sacred Heart in Aberdeen and then Bankhead Academy. She was very much a tomboy and loved nothing better than climbing trees and playing football. She often got up to mischief with her sisters and the other children in the neighbourhood. Growing up she was very active, playing hockey for school, attending school skiing trips and hillwalking trips.
She started at Aberdeen University but love got in the way when she met her now husband Rhys at Aberdeen Airport when she was 18. She moved to England to be with Rhys, they got married and had two boys Patrick in 1983 and Robert in 1984.
In 1988 they moved to Cyprus as Rhys was a Pilot. Then after a year they moved to Brunei in SE Asia which was their home for over ten years. Maggie loved the life in Brunei and was at her happiest there with the tropical weather and lifestyle. She took a keen interest in helping all the stray dogs and cats – at one point there were up to ten puppies running around the house – she cared for them and found them all homes. She even saved a baby monkey (Max) who was abandoned in the jungle. Maggie took her in and provided her a home (had to build a place in the garden for her) – just to give an idea what kind of caring person she was.
Maggie was also a very keen tennis player and won a mixed doubles championship in Malaysia during this time. She also loved watching Manchester United play on the weekends.
In 2000, instead of returning to England – the Perraton family immigrated to Vernon, BC as Maggie’s mother was born in Montreal and provided this path. Maggie made Vernon her family home for twenty years, then moved to Lumby for her final four years. She continued her love of pets after the boys left home and she would go on hikes every morning in the hills behind her house with the dogs.
Maggie loved being a Grandma to her four grandchildren – spoiling them whenever she could.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Pleasant Valley Funeral Home: 4303 Pleasant Valley Road, Vernon, B.C on Friday, March 17, 2023 @ 11:00AM
