North Okanagan motorists may have noticed a change at several area gas stations.

Canco, a relatively new petroleum brand, has been replacing existing suppliers like Shell.

The Okanagan Landing Shell station recently made the switch to Canco and its convenience store brand One-Stop. There are also Canco’s in Grindrod, Falkland, Cherryville and two in Lavington.

The Splatsin First Nation also converted its petroleum operation in Enderby to Canco.

The Canadian-owned company started in 2016 and is described on its website as an alternative to big-box retailers. Canco buys fuel directly from major refineries to offer consistent supply at a competitive price.

The company offers a cash back loyalty card, with two cents a litre off, two per cent cash back for convenience store purchases, and one per cent on lottery purchases.

There are over 100 Canco gas stations in Canada including dozens in B.C. and the company is experiencing rapid growth as station owner operators look to control costs.
