Lorna Stephenie Stewart (nee Congdon)
July 5, 1943 – November 28, 2022
In loving memory ~
It is with great sadness to announce that Lorna Stewart passed away peacefully at Vernon Jubilee Hospital on November 28, 2022, with family at her side.
Lorna was born in Lethbridge Alberta and graduated from the Holy Cross School of Nursing as an RN in 1964. She practiced as a nurse at Vernon Jubilee Hospital where she fell in love with the beautiful Okanagan. Lorna finished her career as a Licensing Officer with Interior Health.
She married her high school sweetheart Bill in Blairmore, Alberta in 1966 and they promptly moved to Vernon where they raised their family. The Stewart family lived for a brief time on a hobby farm with a prosperous garden and productive chickens from which Lorna baked the most delicious chocolate zucchini loafs. Lorna loved animals, most memorably her Springer spaniel KG and her cat Jinxsie.
After selling the hobby farm, the family built a house on Okanagan Lake. Lorna enjoyed many years living on the lake, boating and barbequing with family and friends. She spent many fun times RV-ing in Alberta and the Kootenays over the years. Her love of travel took her to Fiji, Cook Islands, Hawaii, Mexico and a Caribbean cruise. One of her favorite winter travel destinations was Mexico where she snorkeled for the first time in Xcaret and kissed a sea lion in Puerto Vallarta!
Lorna also enjoyed some casino and shopping adventures in Washington over the years and had a few jackpots come her way. She believed some of her lucky streak was inherited from her father who played poker.
Lorna is survived by her beloved husband Bill; daughter, Jeryl (Bruce) and son, Craig (Peggy), her sister-in-law Fay (Iain) Douglas, nephews Christopher (Ayako, Gannon, Crevan) Douglas and Jeffery Douglas.
A private family gathering was held at Pleasant Valley Funeral Home on December 7, 2022, where many happy memories were shared. Lorna was sent off with her favorite sunglasses that she will surely need and a frosty mug for her afternoon cocktail.
Lorna will never be forgotten and will remain in our hearts and spirit as the generous and loving wife and mother we love so dearly.
We will miss you Fuzzy…Bill
We will miss you Whim…Jeryl & Craig
