Joseph Abel

Long time rancher Joseph Abel passed away on November 27, 2022 at the age of 88 after a short battle with cancer.
Born in Gustrow, Germany, Joe came home to the Westwold Valley and was raised on an area farm with three sisters and extended family. Some of his early years were spent logging and mining, but he returned to his roots of ranching when he bought the Westwold farm in the very early 1960’s. He spent the rest of his life in the ranching industry he loved.
Joe is predeceased by his parents Felix and Viola Abel; sisters Rita Stark and Bev Cudworth; mother of his children Norma Jackson and grandson Ryan Laird.
He is survived by his children Irene Laird, Russell Abel, Clayton Abel; his sister Patricia Gibbings and grandchildren Jordan Laird, Brandon Abel, ShyAnn Abel, Sheridan Abel, Brittany Tishenko, Ashley Abel as well as 13 great grandchildren.
A private interment will occur at a later date.
Memorial donations in Joseph’s memory may be made to a charity such as the BC Cancer Society, 4-H, or the BC Cattlemen’s Association.
