November 20, 1930-October 21, 2022
With deep sadness we announce the passing of Irmgard Siegmueller at Lumby, BC at the age of 91.
Irmgard was born in Hameln, Germany on November 20, 1930 to parents Josef and Margarethe Schramm. She was predeceased by her partner Keith Guenette, her grandson Jordan Siegmueller and first husband Gert Siegmueller. She is survived by her sons Peter (Trina) of Williams Lake and Mark (Candy) of Lumby as well as grandchildren Angela, Jennifer, Jaye and Ali. Oma is also survived by her great-grandchildren Parker, Seraya, Nova and Rheya.
Irma was small in stature but large with tenacity and resilience. Shortly after her marriage in 1951, she immigrated to Canada. Just months after her husband had come to Canada for work, she boarded a ship and travelled here alone. She spoke no English and only knew that Gert was ‘somewhere out west’.
She arrived in Vernon by train and was connected with Dr. & Mrs. Latty who took her into their home. Shortly after, her and Gert were reunited and their Canadian story began. Early years were spent at the Ferguson Mill site in Lumby and then moving to the Coldstream area.
Irma was a skilled cook and worked at the Coldstream and National hotels. She ran the restaurant at the Vernon Golf Course and proudly told the story of ‘serving the queen’ during her visit to the area. She later owned her own restaurant, ‘Irma’s Cedar Inn’ in Enderby. She lived in Onoway, Alberta for a number of years before returning to the Vernon area.
In their later years, her and Keith enjoyed Okanagan Lake life and travelling to Yuma, Arizona each winter.
A private graveside service will be held with family.
