Vipers sweep games at Showcase

Oct 20, 2022 | 12:15 PM

The Vernon Vipers saved their best for the last…period.

The Snakes scored three unanswered goals in the third period to top the Langley Rivermen 3-2 in Vernon’s second and final game of the BC Hockey League’s annual Showcase in Chilliwack. The four-day event, featuring all 18 BCHL teams, is attended by dozens of pro and college scouts.

Goals by Luke Lavery, Hank Cleaves and Ethan Merner propelled the Vipers to the victory, their fifth in ten games this season.

Ethan David made 33 saves for the win in net for the game that started at 10 a.m.

On Wednesday, the Vipers defeated the Alberni Valley Bulldogs 5-3 at the Showcase.

Stittsville, Ontario native Lee Parks had two goals and one assist to lead the Vipers, picking a great time to showcase his talents to the assembled college and pro scouts.

“I tried to not focus on the distractions and just play my game. It’s obviously nice. You know you are doing something right if there is a bunch of scouts going up and talking to you. It’s nice to feel, but you just go out there and play your game,” the 18-year-old Parks said.

The Vipers (5-4-0-1) next play Saturday hosting the Prince George Spruce Kings at 6 p.m.
