UPDATE: Cumming wins second term as Vernon mayor, five incumbents re-elected

UPDATE:

Victor Cumming has won a second term as mayor of Vernon and his new council will look very similar to the current one.

The preliminary results from city hall show Cumming got 4,346 votes (52.7 per cent), 709 more than runner-up Scott Anderson with 3,637 (41.3 per cent) and Erik Olesen had 530 (6 per cent).

All five incumbent councillors running were re-elected plus newcomer Brian Guy.

Guy is a geoscientist with extensive experience in water issues. He ran an environmental consulting business for many years.

A total of 8,677 voters turned out to the polls in Vernon this year, representing 24.4 per cent of eligible voters. In 2018, voter turnout in Vernon was 29.6 per cent.

Preliminary results from ballots cast in advance, special voting, and regular polls in Vernon indicate that Victor Cumming is the Mayor of the City of Vernon for a second term, after receiving 4346 votes.

The six council positions for the next four years will be filled by:

The preliminary results are based on the ballot accounts prepared at each voting place and are subject to determination of official election results by the Chief Election Officer, Janice Nicol. These results will be confirmed no later than 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 19, 2022.

The City of Vernon will also provide further information regarding the Active Living Centre project and the result of the referendum on Monday, October 17.

A total of 8,677 voters turned out to the polls in Vernon this year, representing 24.4% of eligible voters. In 2018, voter turnout in Vernon was 29.6%.

The polls have now closed and the results are being compiled for the City of Vernon’s municipal election.

Three people are seeking the mayor’s seat: Scott Anderson, Victor Cumming (incumbent) and Erik Olesen.

There are 13 candidates for the six councillor positions including five incumbents.

Voters in Vernon are also deciding the fate of a referendum to borrow up to $121 million for an Active Living Centre at Kin Race Track Park.

Vernon Matters will provide the results as soon as they are available.

School District 22

Seven school trustees will be elected for the School District 22 board of education: four representing the City of Vernon and Areas B and C of RDNO, one for Coldstream and two for the Lumby area.

The Lumby positions were acclaimed (Gen Acton and Lori Mindnich). There are 10 candidates for the four Vernon area seats and three for the one in Coldstream/Lavington.

Of particular interest are three candidates running in Vernon under a right-wing slate for ParentsVoice BC.
