The latest report from the B.C. Centre for Disease Control shows a decline in new COVID-19 cases in Greater Vernon.

The report confirmed 19 cases of the virus in the Vernon health area between Oct. 2 and 8. That is down from the 43 cases reported the week prior.

Meanwhile, the Interior saw weekly cases fall while the province stayed relatively flat.

The BCCDC reports there were 150 cases in the Interior and 697 confirmed across the province. The week prior saw 165 cases in the Interior and 696 in all of B.C.

The decrease in the Interior was offset by a rise in the Vancouver Coastal Health’s figure.

The Interior had a total of 27 people infected with COVID-19 admitted to hospital in the latest reporting week, while 181 infected British Columbians were hospitalized across the province.

Both those figures are down on a week-over-week basis.

However, there was a rise in critical care admissions as six people in the Interior and 36 in all of B.C. were admitted to ICU with COVID-19 infections.

There was a total of nine deaths recorded in the Interior in the latest report, up from six the week prior. A total of 25 British Columbians died to the virus, down from 36 the previous week.

To date, a total of 386,293 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed throughout B.C., including 68.857 in the Interior.

A total of 4,370 British Columbians have died due to the virus, 659 of whom were from the Interior.

The BCCDC report did not include hospitalization or death data for individual health regions.
