UPDATE: New wildfire in Central Okanagan

UPDATE: 5:00 p.m.

The Jack Creek fire west of Glenrosa in West Kelowna is estimated at 7.3 hectares and classified as out of control.

There are 19 personnel and helicopters actioning the fire.

Seventeen properties on Maxwell Road are on evacuation alert, north of the Okanagan Connector Highway 97-C/Trepanier Road access.

The cause of the fire is believed to be lightning.

B.C. Wildfire crews are attacking a new blaze from the ground and air west of Glenrosa Road in West Kelowna between Trepanier and the ski club.

The Jack Creek fire is estimated at 4.5 hectares and is suspected to have been caused by lightning.

Ten firefighters were on the ground Wednesday evening.

Helicopters and air tankers did what they could before it got dark.
