Multi-use path on track for September completion

Aug 15, 2022 | 6:00 AM

A new multi-use path on Silver Star Road could be ready for use by the time kids return to school in September.

The City of Vernon says says crews are currently building the path adjacent to BX Elementary School, up to Star Road.

“This work is scheduled to be paved and complete before the start of the school year,” stated a staff update to Vernon council.

Following the work at the school, the project will shift to Blackcomb Way to finish the retaining wall and drainage tie-ins.

City staff say the project is within budget and on-schedule for completion in September 2022.

Chapman Industries is the contractor for the three-metre-wide path which will eventually stretch from Pleasant Valley Road near Butcher Boys to Blackcomb Way in the Foothills neighbourhood.

Detours have been in place along Silver Star Road during the work

The city said back in June, another detour along Star Road may be required this fall for a few days while crews pave the multi-use pathway.

The project is costing $5.9 million, with $500,000 provided by the B.C. government.
