McKay passed away at the Parkview Place Care Home in Enderby on July 25, 2022. She was predeceased by her parents Constance and Lisle Edwards, her loving husband Gregg, and her brother Bob. She is will be sadly missed by her 5 children – Brenda Herrling (Mike), Sandra Johanson (Dwain), Heather Lecavalier (Leo), Gordon McKay (Lynn), and Warren McKay (Colleen), and her sister Sharon Alexander. Joan had 12 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren and a lot of extended family in the area.
Joan was born to Connie and Lisle Edwards August 29, 1936 in Vernon, BC. She was raised in the Okanagan Landing where she met her future husband Gregg. They married in 1955 and moved to the Coldstream a few years later where they built their family home and raised their kids. Joan’s family was very important to her. She loved her time camping with family and attending their various activities. Joan was an active volunteer throughout much of her life. She was a Girl Guide leader, team mother for sports, Baby Clinic volunteer, Flu Clinic volunteer, and a great Grandma. All the grandkids, and countless others never went without her hand knitted sweaters.
An informal Celebration of Life will be held on August 22 at Coldstream Park, (10100 Kalamalka Lake Rd,) entrance beside Coldstream Elementary from 2:00-4:00pm. Friends and family will be welcome to attend and share some memories. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society – or take some extra time to do something outdoors with your family.
Joan’s family would like to thank the staff at Parkview Place for all the special care that they gave mom. Covid made it difficult for us to be there as much as we wanted to and we appreciated your dedication during that difficult time.
Thanks also to Mom’s LTC Coordinator Michele for your persistent advocating on her behalf, and to Dr. Bryant whose extra calls and support were more than we could have expected.
Rest in Peace Mom! You will be missed.
