Buddy Up for suicide prevention
The Centre for Suicide Prevention (CSP) is promoting a Buddy Up program to reduce men’s suicide in Canada.
June is Buddy Up Month and the centre is focusing on men’s suicide prevention through a campaign that promotes authentic conversations among men and their friends.
With men dying three times more often than women due to suicide in Canada, the campaign is encouraging men to connect and actually talk to one another about their emotional states, mental health and struggles.
“Men are expected to really endure pain or hardship without really showing our feelings or complaining. Due to these expectations, men are often less likely than women to seek help when they are struggling,” explained Akash Asif, External Relations Director with CSP.
