One dead after ammonia leak at business

UPDATE:

A man who worked at an ice-making business has died following an ammonia leak in Kamloops.

Deputy fire chief Ryan Cail says the man is believed to have been in his ’60s.

Two other people managed to escape when the colourless gas was somehow discharged.

Investigations by the RCMP, WorkSafeBC and the coroners service are underway after the incident at Arctic Glacier Premium Ice.

At least one person has died after an ammonia leak at a business in the Mount Paul Industrial Park in Kamloops this morning (May 26).

Kamloops Fire Rescue and B.C. Ambulance Service personnel rushed to the area of Carrier Street and Sarcee Street at about 10:45 a.m. for the report of an ammonia leak stemming from a building.

Multiple sources have confirmed to CFJC Today that the situation resulted in the death of one person. Another person is in critical condition.

The cause of the leak is not yet apparent.

In a social media post, the City of Kamloops asks the public to stay away from the area of the Mount Paul Industrial Park while authorities investigate and deal with the situation.
