End of mask mandate boost for local restaurants

The lifting of the mask mandate in B.C. has led to a surge in business for at least two local restaurants, including one that is planning a new location.

Officials with the Dahl Group of Companies, told Vernon Matters, they have definitely seen a boost.

“Business is up for sure, about 20 percent at both Wings Vernon and The Italian Kitchen, said Shay Ritchot, manager of Wings Vernon.

“Everyone is so happy to be out and mask free,” said Leah Dickinson, events manager for the Vernon based restaurant group. “There are still those concerned however. We actually had a few small parties cancel because they thought it would be too crowded. That was like, wait, what?”

Ritchot also leaked out that her group in Vernon is working on a new location to be announced soon, but would not divulge further details.

“No comment, for now, but stay tuned. Vernon is going to love this news.”

B.C.’s mask mandate was lifted on Friday and the vaccine card is scheduled to end on April 8.

The executive director of the Alliance of Beverage Licensees of B.C. said people have been partying like it’s 2019, since the province dropped its mask mandate.

Jeff Guignard said the timing of the change will be a boon for businesses.

He said bars and clubs are getting excited for the biggest Saint Patrick’s Day celebration in two years.
