A Vernon North Okanagan RCMP crime analyst has been recognized for her work ethic.

Kathryn Jacobson was presented with the Most Hardworking Analyst Award at the Vernon council meeting on Monday, March 14.

The award recognizes an individual’s diligence, perseverance and work ethic in conducting tactical, operational or strategic analysis in support of intelligence, prevention or enforcement activities.

“Kathryn has been the Vernon North Okanagan detachment crime analyst since 2010. Since her first day at work, Kathryn has worked tirelessly as the sole analyst at Vernon North Okanagan, managing changing priorities and a large volume, complexity and scope of requests,” said Jorda Metcalfe, Director of the B.C. RCMP Criminal Analysis Program.

“One of Kathryn’s main accomplishments was her role developing the detachment comp-stat program through several reincarnations into the most recent bulletin form. Throughout these many changes, Kathryn has worked extremely hard to gain buy-in from everyone to support the process, and to obtain the most up-to-date information for her analysis.”

Metcalf added that Jacobson’s efforts have allowed more information to be gathered on the front-line and used to realign proactive work.

“On a regular basis, Kathryn has identified crime groups, crime sprees and similar modus operandi, all leading to many arrests and convictions of not only Vernon-North Okanagan criminals, but criminals throughout the entire Southeast District,” said Metcalf.

She also noted that Jacobson analyzed a number of investigations throughout the Southeast District in 2021, resulting in the identification of a suspect who had committed a series of crimes across the region while using a fake name.

“Had it not been for Kathryn’s analysis and keen review of multiple arrest photographs, the suspect would not have been properly identified and charges properly persued.”

Meltcalf added that senior officers, investigators and colleagues all respect the hard work and dedication Jacobson shows in moving investigations forward by analyzing vast amounts of information.

“Other analysts have commented on Kathryn’s collaborative nature and willingness to take on and share her work,” said Metcalf.

“Anyone who knows Kathryn and her work would say that she is not only one of the most hard working crime or intelligence analysts that they know, but also that she is kind, passionate about her work, and a pleasure to work with.”
