Robert (Bob) Joseph Folk passed away peacefully Feb 5th, 2022 in Vernon, BC. He is survived by his three daughters Crystal Wilson (Aaron), Celeste St. Onge (Paul), Carmen Crum (Eric), his four granddaughters Annika, Chloe, Mina and Caia as well as his sister Eileen Berkeland (Dave) and Judi Folk (with whom he shared 27 years and three beautiful daughters).
Bob was born in Saskatchewan during the Great Depression and was adopted by a loving couple. He excelled at many sports and enjoyed them well into his 80s. He was a local Geography/PE teacher at Kalamalka Junior High school and taught for 37 years. He will be remembered for his strong handshake (friend or foe) and his Reach for the Top times with students in the classroom. He was a faithful father, loving and supportive friend, and encouraging and kind to everyone. His family moved to the Okanagan when he was a young boy and he enjoyed growing up in Kelowna. He lived overseas in Germany for two years and moved around to a few BC schools, but has called Vernon home since 1973. After returning to the Okanagan, he didn’t see a need to travel as he savored his long summer days on the boat at Cousen’s Bay and at the Kalamalka Country Club. His daughters have fond memories of driving up to Silver Star listening to the “Little Nash Rambler” 8 track on the way to enjoy downhill skiing as a family. He spent many retirement days on the greens and playing card games with his good friends George, Tibor, Ron, Bob T, Bob R, Art, Ron, Fred and many others. Bob had a strong faith in God and loved worshiping at mass.
A special thank you to Father Peter, the staff at VJH 2East, and IH Home support care workers, who so lovingly cared for our dad and helped him stay in his beloved home. Friends are invited to a funeral mass which will be held at 1pm Friday February 11th with Father Peter officiating. Bob will be laid to rest at St Nicholas Cemetery next to Our Lady of the Valley, in Coldstream, in a private family ceremony. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to support Vernon and Area Pro-Life Society. Livestream of the service can be attended and condolences can be shared with the family at www.vernonfuneralhome.com
