David Lowell Ash
January 15, 1958 –January 30, 2022
It is with profound sadness that we announce that with his wife Sandi by his side, Dave passed into the arms of our Lord on January 30, 2021.
After going head to head with cancer for 6 months he was called home where he will spend eternity where there are no infirmities.
Dave was born and spent the first 40 years of his life in Ohio, U.S.A. He moved to Canada in 1998 to marry the love of his life. They began their lives together in Surrey, BC and moved to Dawson Creek in 2000 where they spent the next 19 years. They moved to Vernon in 2019 with the dream of retiring and enjoying the beauty and warmth of the Okanagan. They bought a little boat in April of 2021 and looked forward to years of spending their days fishing in the local lakes. But God had other plans and on Aug 4th Dave was diagnosed with a very aggressive cancer that didn`t respond to treatments. Throughout the next months Dave kept up a positive attitude, a sense of humour, and he was such a blessing and encouragement to so many others.
His family would like to thank the Doctors and nurses in the Oncology Department of the Vernon Jubilee Hospital for helping him to fight his cancer and express our gratitude to the nurses, doctors and staff on the 2nd and 7th floor and in the emergency department who were so kind, helpful and who made his last days comfortable and dignified.
Dave`s passions in life were fishing, camping, good food, good friends and creating beautiful woodworking projects, even if they were sometimes at the expense of some of his fingers.
He was predeceased by his parents George and Charlotte Ash, his brothers George and Ron and a baby sister Joan.
He leaves to mourn, his wife Sandi, his children Kristina and Jason, his brother Robert and sister Rita. Also a large extended family and friends in both Ohio and in Canada. And his best four legged friend, Buddy who will miss the lovins, snuggles and the belly rubs. They were truly best friends.
A celebration of his life will be held in the coming months when Covid restrictions are lifted.
Dave’s wishes were that if anyone wished to do so, to please donate in his memory by supporting the BC Cancer’s Precision Oncology for Young people (PROFYLE) program, which aims to perform genome-wide tumour sequencing of all young people in Canada with hard to treat cancers. A donation page in his honor has been created at https://bccancerfoundation.com/DaveAsh or donate by mail to: BC Cancer Foundation, 150-686 W. Broadway, Vancouver, B.C., V5Z 1G1 or call 1-888-906-2873
Rev 21.4 and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
