Supporting Food Bank and Red Cross

Two local organizations have joined forces to support people in need this holiday season.

SilverStar’s Play Forever Fund and the Community Foundation of the North Okanagan (CFNO) have launched a Food Fundraiser to raise money for the Vernon Food Bank and assist people in need.

The Play Forever Fund and an anonymous donor through the CFNO are matching public donations up to $10,000.

A report by Food Banks Canada states that 1.3-million food bank visits were made in Canada in 2021. Of those visits, 131,001 were located in British Columbian.

Donations can be made through the CFNO website.

The two organizations have also partnered together to raise money for the Red Cross.

The Play Forever Fund and two matching donors through the CFNO have donated a total of $15,000 to the Red Cross. That donation will be matched by both the Government of Canada and the Government of British Columbia.

Also this year, Play Forever Fund donated $5,000 to the North Valley Gymnastics Club to help rebuild the facility destroyed in the October fire, and has provided the Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation with $20,000.

Since March of 2019, SilverStar’s Play Forever Fund has donated more than $140,000 to local non-profits. A number of those donations have been matched by the provincial or federal governments, bringing the total contributions to local charities and groups up to $245,615.
