New snow keeps police in Shuswap busy

Police are reminding drivers that fresh snow can turn into ice on the roads very quickly, and even the best winter tires can’t keep a vehicle out of trouble.

RCMP in Salmon Arm say seven vehicles were involved in separate collisions over the weekend in their area.

“In one case, there was a two-vehicle collision on a secondary road and two tractor trailer trucks slid off the road in separate incidents,” said Staff Sgt. Scott West. “In the two-vehicle collision, one of the drivers was served a three-day immediate roadside prohibition as a result of being under the influence.”

West said as the snow begins to pile up, drivers are reminded to use good winter tires and to drive to the conditions.
