Vipers come up short on Teddy Bear Toss Night

Dec 5, 2021 | 5:00 AM

The teddy bears flew, but the Vernon Vipers comeback fell short on Saturday night, falling 4-2 to the Cranbrook Bucks at Kal Tire Place.

It was the Bucks first ever visit to the Vernon arena after entering the BC Hockey League in the 2020-21 season.

Hayden Gelbard led the Kootenay crew with a goal and one assist.

Cranbrook led 3-0 going into the third before Vernon’s Luke Lavery got his first goal to make the teddy bears fly onto the ice. Captain JoJo Tanaka Campbell made it 3-2 nine seconds later, but that’s as close as the Vipers would get before a season-high crowd of 1,679.

Next game for the Vipers will be Friday, Dec. 10 in Trail.
