Prime Minister Trudeau joins Tk’emlups community to discuss truth and reconciliation

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has made a formal, in-person apology to the Tk’emlups te Secwepemc First Nation for taking a day off instead of attending events on the first national day of Truth and Reconciliation.

Trudeau met with Chief Rosanne Casimir in Kamloops today– with Casimir calling the visit bittersweet.

Wayne Christian, chief of the Enderby-area Splatsin, told the event many members didn’t attend as they are too angry and frustrated with the government, and he thanked all the residential school survivors, which includes his mother, for their courage.

“Thank you to all those who survived the genocide against them. You have survived 100 years of this insittution. We’re still here,” Christian said.
