New COVID-19 cases see downward trend in B.C.

British Columbia had 605 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, dropping the seven-day average to 580.

It’s the first time the weekly average has dropped below 600 since late August.

Interior Health (IH) had 119 new infections, on par with the average of around 101 per day over the Thanksgiving long weekend.

The number of active cases in IH increased by nine from Tuesday, to 850.B.C. has 5,172 active cases (down by 11 from Tuesday), with 374 people in hospital with COVID-19 (+17) and 153 in intensive care (same).

Four new COVID-released deaths have been reported for an overall total of 2,033.

Three were in Northern Health and the other in Island Health.

There has been one new health-care facility outbreak at Tofino General Hospital (Island Health). The outbreak at The Residence in Mission (Fraser Health) has been declared over, for a total of 19 active outbreaks.

As of today, 88.9 per cent of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 82.7 per cent have had two doses.

From Oct. 5–11, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 68.0 per cent of cases and from Sept. 28–Oct. 11, they accounted for 73.4 per cent of hospitalizations.
