2,425 new COVID-19 cases over long weekend

British Columbia had an average of 606 new COVID-19 cases per day over the Labour Day long weekend.

The total, released Tuesday, was 2,425 cases which broke down as follows:

  • Sept. 3-4: 695 new cases
  • Sept. 4-5: 634 new cases
  • Sept. 5-6: 563 new cases
  • Sept. 6-7: 533 new cases

There are 5,465 active cases in the province, with 255 people in hospital and 126 in intensive care.

Interior Health continued to lead the way in new infections with 838 since Friday, and now has 1,714 active cases.

Fraser Health was next with 705 new cases, with 368 in Vancouver Coastal health, 312 in Northern Health and 202 in Island Health.

Since Friday, there were 15 more COVID-related deaths, for an overall total of 1,842. Six of the deaths were in Interior Health.

There have been three new health-care facility outbreaks at Louis Brier Home and Hospital (Vancouver Coastal Health), The Hamlets at Westsyde and Joseph Creek Care Village (Interior Health). The outbreaks at Peace Arch Hospital, Heritage Village (Fraser Health) and Hawthorn Park (Interior Health) have been declared over, for a total of 21 active outbreaks.

Update on Interior Health outbreaks:

Brookhaven Care Centre in West Kelowna has 18 cases: 10 residents and eight staff, with three deaths connected to the outbreak.

Cottonwoods Care Centre long-term care in Kelowna has 29 cases: 19 residents and 10 staff, with six deaths connected to the outbreak.

David Lloyd Jones long-term care in Kelowna has 55 cases: 41 residents and 14 staff, with seven deaths connected to the outbreak.

Village at Mill Creek assisted living/independent living in Kelowna has 10 cases: five residents and five staff.

Nicola Meadows assisted living/independent living in Merritt has seven cases: four residents and three staff, with one death connected to the outbreak.

Hardy View Lodge long-term care in Grand Forks has two cases: one resident and one staff.

Spring Valley Care Centre long-term care in Kelowna has 14 cases: 10 residents and four staff, with two deaths connected to the outbreak.

Sun Pointe Village assisted living/independent living in Kelowna has eight resident cases, with one death connected to the outbreak.

Rose Wood Village long-term care in Trail has two resident cases.

Kamloops Seniors Village long-term care has 13 cases: nine residents and four staff, with one death connected to the outbreak.

Hillside Village long-term care in Salmon Arm has five cases: two resident and three staff.

The Hamlets at Westsyde long-term care in Kamloops has six cases: three residents and three staff.

Joseph Creek Village long-term care in Cranbrook has eight cases: four residents and four staff.

Over 7.5 million COVID vaccine doses have been administered in B.C. with 85.1 per cent of eligible people 12 and older getting one dose and 77.6 per cent receiving two doses.
