1929 – 2021
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother. Winifred passed away peacefully, to join her lord and saviour, with her family present, on September 1st.
Affectionately known as “Winnie” by everyone who knew and loved her, she was born on January 03, 1929, in Vernon. A twin to Mildred, and one of seven children born to Amil and Georgina Kaminski in Vernon.
As a child, she grew up on her parent’s orchard, at the corner of Reimer and Pleasant Valley road. As a young woman she was employed by Bulman’s Cannery. She married Joseph in 1951. With the Air Force they traveled across Canada. Her six children were born, and she became a full time loving and caring homemaker tending to the needs of her family.
1967 Brought an end to the Air Force life, and they settled back in Vernon with their family nearby. Summers were spent nurturing her always flourishing garden, and camping at the local lakes with her family. Her spare time was also devoted to her knitting and canning. She loved bowling on a league with family members and friends which she carried on into her 90’s. She also enjoyed bus trips to Reno and Coeur d’Alene with family and friends. In her later years she shared a house with her twin sister.
With the help of family, friends, and her loyal dog Somba, she was able to stay in the house right up until the last couple of days.
Winnie was an exceptional person who always saw the best in people, she was a very kind hearted, caring person. She was always willing to help. Her labour of love was knitting toques, dish clothes, and infant dresses for charity.
Winnie was predeceased by her husband Joseph, her youngest daughter Marie, her brothers Fred and Ed, and her sisters Jean and Ena.
Left to remember her are her 5 children, Peter (Linda), George, Elaine, Eileen, and Douglas (Jan), her 14 grandchildren, and her 19 great grandchildren; her sisters: Mildred, and Joan, and an extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, cherished friends, and Somba.
Cremation preceded a Celebration of Winnie’s life which will take place at Pleasant Valley Funeral Home, with Gwen officiating. Due to current restrictions, it will be by invitation only.
In lieu of flowers, those friends wishing to make memorial contributions in Winnie’s name, may do so to the Vernon Hospice House.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to PLEASANT VALLEY DIGNITY FUNERAL HOME. Condolences may be offered at pleasantvalleyfh.com
