Vernon ESS reception centre hours changing

Aug 27, 2021 | 1:00 PM

The City of Vernon is changing the hours of operation for its Emergency Support Services (ESS) Reception Centre.

The new hours, which take effect Saturday, Aug. 28, will see the centre open from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. daily. These hours will remain in place until further notice.

Meanwhile, work is underway to maintain services for wildfire evacuees at the centre, which is located at the Dogwood Gym in the Vernon Recreation Centre.

In order to ensure the health and safety of the evacuees, the city reminds anyone experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, or has been asked to self-isolate but still needs access to ESS, to call 811 and speak with a healthcare professional to get information on how to proceed.

ESS is a provincial program run by volunteers to provide short-term basic support for people who do not have insurance and have been impacted by a disaster.

The city also asks people to follow all updates and be prepared in case further evacuation alerts or orders need to be issued.
