Suspects arrested after man assaulted and forced into vehicle

The RCMP Emergency Response Team assisted in the arrest of a man and woman involved in a suspected kidnapping and assault near Salmon Arm.

On Monday, Aug. 23, at around 5:45 p.m., RCMP responded to a report that a man was assaulted, forced into a vehicle and then threatened by a man and woman in the 2000 block of Piers Point Road near Salmon Arm.

“The male victim was able to escape the vehicle as it moved down the road and he ran to a house nearby to call police,” said Sgt. Scott West.

Police said the suspects then broke into a residence on First Nations Road near Salmon Arm, causing a resident of that house to flee as the suspect attempted to hide in the home.

“Salmon Arm RCMP arrived on scene, located them and sealed off the area with the assistance of the BC RCMP Police Dog Service. The BC RCMP Southeast District Emergency Response Team (ERT) was activated and attended,” said West.

West said as a result of tactical actions taken by the ERT, the suspects surrendered to police without incident at around 10:30 p.m. A 26-year-old man and 34-year-old woman who were known to police were taken into custody.

West said RCMP are recommending charges of kidnapping, assault causing bodily harm and uttering threats with the investigation ongoing.

The male victim is recovering in hospital with what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries in what appears to be a targeted event.
