Armed woman who barricaded herself in residence arrested

An armed woman who barricaded herself in a residence on Canyon Lister Road in the East Kooteney early Wednesday has been taken into custody.

The incident began at about 10:30 a.m., when officers from Creston RCMP responded to the residence after receiving reports of shots fired.

Mounties said the officers first on the scene attempted to make contact with the person inside, and an RCMP Crisis Negotiator and the Southeast District Emergency Response Team, as well as Police Dog Service, were called in to assist.

After several hours of negotiating, the 63-year old woman was safely taken into custody.
