New COVID-19 case numbers continue to decrease in British Columbia.

Since Friday, there were 229 new cases for a total of 147,131 cases in the province. This includes 94 new cases on Saturday, 90 on Sunday and 45 on Monday.

Of the new cases, 60 are in the Interior Health region, 51 were in Vancouver Coastal Health, 99 are in Fraser Health, five are in Island Health and 13 are in Northern Health.

There are currently 1,204 active cases with 108 people in hospital, 48 in critical or intensive care.

There have been three new COVID-related deaths, for a total of 1,743.

There has been one new health-care facility outbreak at Eagle Ridge Hospital (Fraser Health).

On the vaccine scene, 77.3 per cent of all adults in B.C. and 75.8 per cent of those 12 and older have now received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

In total, 4,436,432 doses of vaccines have been administered in B.C., 935,401 (21 per cent) of which are second doses.

Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix said on National Indigenous Peoples Day, they honour First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples everywhere and take the day to recognize the strength and resilience that has been shown through the COVID-19 pandemic.

“On what is also the first day of summer, we encourage everyone to start your summer off right by ensuring you have your first dose, if you have not already done so. Dose 1 drop-in clinics are open at a number of locations around the province,” Henry and Dix stated.

The health officials are a encouraged eligible young people, those 12 and older, to get their first dose before the summer holidays begin.

“This will allow you and your family to enjoy your summer even more, knowing you have protection from COVID-19.”

Henry and Dix said while the numbers are lowering and B.C. is progressing through the restart plan, the virus is still circulating in B.C. communities, and in neighbouring provinces and territories.

“If you are planning a trip, ensure you are vaccinated before you go – it is your ticket to safe travel this summer.”
