Jun 16, 2021 | 5:05 PM

UPDATE 5:05 p.m.

Three residents are in the care of emergency social services after a fire at a home on Sage Avenue in Armstrong.

Nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution as the three-level home sustained significant damage, but no one was injured.

The Armstrong-Spallumcheen Fire Department responded before 1:30 p.m.

“They were able to contain the fire to the one residence. There was some concerns that, just based on the property being heavily treed, it could have spread to neighbouring properties, but we were able to control that,” Warren Smith, emergency program co-coordinator told Vernon Matters.

The cause is under investigation with no word if there was anything suspicious.

“One resident stated they weren’t aware of anything that may have started the fire,” Smith added.

Due to the damage, fire officials will have to assess if they can safely investigate the cause.

Sage Avenue is expected to reopen to traffic later tonight.
