Alexander “BUD” Reid, March 27, 1929 – May 2, 2021
On May 2, 2021, Alexander “Bud” Reid was welcomed into heaven at the age of 92. Bud was born on March 27, 1929 in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan to the late Sandy and Peggy Reid.
They moved to Pelican Narrows, Manitoba where Bud’s dad was a fur trader. Bud had his own (2 dog) sled team named Potato and Ratty, which him and his sister Jean had lots of fun with. His friends were native kids, so Bud learned to speak Cree right away. He still remembered a few words at 92 years old. He told stories about that time in his life quite often, remembering that the native kids would laugh at him when he spoke English.
The family then moved around to Flin Flon, Manitoba, Cold Lake and Sherridon, where his sister Judy was born. Dad was a very good swimmer and his favourite past time was canoeing.
When he was old enough, he joined the Navy. After leaving the Navy, he met the love of his life, Amelia Weselowski and were married on August 8, 1952. (Ukrainian weddings last for a week. I have old photos to prove it.
Then moving to Vancouver, BC he had several work experiences including taxi driver, bread delivery driver, real estate agent and taking on working in the oil heating business.
Daughter Linda came along in 1956 and son Barry in 1963.
In 1971, dad applied for a job with a heating company in Vernon and aced the interview. So the family packed up and moved to Vernon. Soon he went out on his own and started his own business, “Reid Heating.” He was a popular fella in the winter time!
Dad and mom were members of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Army, Navy and Air Force Club for many years. Dad also did a term as president at the ANAF. He and mom also loved working the meat draws and enjoying the fishing derbies. He loved curing and golfing and talked about not being very good at either, but always enjoyed the beers after.
Dad and mom were darn good dancers back in the day with “In The Mood” with Glen Miller, or doing the polka to the “Beer Barrel Polka” with Frankie Yankovic.
Bud leaves to mourn his daughter Linda, son Barry, grandchildren Mandy (Gord), Marnie (Chris), great grandchildren Tage, Riley and Skylar, his sister Judy (Doug), son-in-law Rod as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family. Bud was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Amelia, and his sister Jean.
The family sends a very special thanks to the wonderful staff and caregivers at The Hamlets of Vernon, where he spent his last three years.
We hope you and mom are having so much fun together again.
Dancing in the Sky – Dani and Lizzie
If There is a Phone in Heaven – Mike Manuel
