It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Betty June Thomas in Vernon, BC on January 28, 2021 at the age of 84. Betty was predeceased by her parents, Bert and Pansy Speers and sister, Shirley Ann. She will be lovingly remembered and missed by her husband of 65 years, Alvin, brother “Bill” William, children Debbie, Calvin, Darcy (Laurie) and Jody (David), grandchildren Suzanne, Deanna, Shena, Kayley, Codie, Grace, and Hannah and great grandchildren, Jaxon, Lane, and Georgia. Many other relatives and friends will remember her fondly, especially her closest cousin Faye, pen-pal Jean from school years, as well as dear friends Phyllis, Ruby, Carol, Pat, Patti and so many more.
Betty was born on September 26, 1936 in Spirit River, AB and grew up on her family’s farm. She met the love of her life while working at a café in Devon, AB and married Alvin on October 22, 1955. Together, they moved around Alberta for many years with the oil rigs and finally settled in Edmonton with their four children. They spent a few years in New Sarepta on an acreage, where she was able to have a big garden and raise a variety of animals. Her dream of moving to God’s Country came true in 1987 when they retired to a farm in Salmon Arm, BC. They worked hard raising cattle, haying, and gardening. In the winter they travelled to Yuma with friends. Betty and Al took many wonderful trips throughout North America, with the highlight being to Alaska. In 2008 they moved off the farm and settled in Vernon, BC.
She was extremely creative and artistic and made crafts, quilted and took up painting and making teddy bears in later years. We all have many cherished creations from her. Betty was always hospitable, and anyone was welcome in their home for a visit and a meal. She showed her love through cooking and baking and sending thoughtful cards and gifts. We will all miss her stories and her warmth and love.
Due to the ongoing pandemic, no service will be held at this time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Betty’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice.
