School Board Budget: Public No-Shows

A public meeting Tuesday night for families to have some input into the Vernon School Board’s 2017/18 budget kind of fell flat.

Board Chair Kelly Smith says no members of the public showed up.

“I’m assuming that our Secretary-Treasurer has done such a terrific job and posted all the information clearly on the website and that’s how people are communicating with us.”

She says she understands it’s difficult sometimes for people to come out to an evening meeting.

“Young families are pretty busy these days right, So to have an evening meeting is sort of an imposition so I think they communicate via the computer”

Kelly Smith says people still have an opportunity to have input

“Absolutely, we’ll have two board meetings between now and then and the third reading, yes they can come to a board meeting for sure.”

The next board meeting is April 26th where the budget will get first and second reading.
