Several people are out of their homes in Kaslo because of a landslide.
The slope came loose just above Zwicky Road which leads from Kaslo to New Denver.
Bronwen Bird with the Regional District of Central Kootenay says it was too late last night to get a geotechnical assessment.
” we decided to use an over abundance of caution and issue a state of emergency and an evacuation order to get those residents out.”
No homes were affected by the slide, but fourty-seven residences were evacuated.
Some people were accommodated in local halls.
A survey of the area is being conducted to assess the situation.
The region has had a number of small slides recently due to the wet weather and snow melt.
