IRVING, William James

July 17, 1938 – October 19, 2020

It is with an extremely heavy heart that we announce the unexpected passing of William “Bill” Irving. Bill passed away peacefully at his home in Vernon BC at the age of 82. He was born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan.

Bill is survived by his long time love Jenny Negraiff. His granddaughter Angie Irving and his two daughters Arlene Irving and Gwen Wendzina. He also leaves behind 5 more grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson, as well as many friends.

Bill lived a very full and adventurous life. He traveled the world through his work with Mobil Oil and was a part of the making of the oil pipeline in Saudi Arabia. He was also able to travel in his personal life.

He was a huge sports fan, an avid golfer, curler and bowler. Anyone who knew Bill knew he was a huge Rider fan and sported his Rider Pride as often as he could. In his younger years he played and coached hockey and loved to ski. For many years he was a member of the Spallumcheen Golf and country club and served on the executive committee. He was well known in the Vernon and area sports world for his commitment and extensive volunteering time. Volunteering for the Telus Skins golf tournaments, tournaments and events at the Spallumcheen golf club, keeping time for curling events, including the Tim Hortons Brier and the Scotties tournament of Hearts. Though his time, he met some famous golfers including Freddie Couples, Mike Weir and Phil Mickelson.

Bill was also involved with the Vernon Legion for many years and served on the executive committee. He faithfully worked and called the meat draws and continued with them at the Eagles Club upon the closure of the Legion. He was also a member of the Army Navy & Airforce Veterans in Vernon, BC and continued with some light volunteer work there.

Due to Covid 19 a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date when safe to do so.
