‘Coward act’: More damage to candidate’s signs in Vernon area

The NDP candidate in Vernon-Monashee is facing more vandalism of her campaign signs.

Harwinder Sandhu’s husband, Baljit, posted several pictures on his Facebook site showing the destruction of her signs, some where he says a chainsaw was used to cut them down.

“Such a coward act to go around at night with chainsaw to chop off signs. I cannot imagine the amount of hatred and anger these people hold. I wish them well and hoping they will get the help they badly need,” wrote Baljit Sandhu.

“The people who did this must be caught and publicly identified,” said one person on the Facebook comments section. “This town needs to know there are people who might be their neighbour that are despicable, bigoted and cruel.”

In response to a comment, Mr. Sandhu said the damage has been “non-stop” and they are spending an average of four to five hours each day to fix the signs.

“Some signs in Lumby we have repaired more than twice. They are also taking away our small signs,” he said.

Racist and sexist comments were earlier posted on one of Sandhu’s signs in Vernon.
