UPDATE 12:30 p.m.
A fire at the Pinnacle Renewal Energy plant in Lavington is now out.
Lavington fire chief Marty Wright said it broke out in the “second dryer” around 10:30 this morning (Sept. 29).
“It was just a lot of smoke and steam, with a few little hot spots,” Wright told Vernon Matters.
Wright said the Coldstream Fire Department was also on scene.
“It could have been a lot worse, but their fire system that they have in place definitely helped out,” he added.
Wright said the fire inspector from the District of Coldstream will be on the site later.

Tolko’s planer mill is also in that area, as is Lavington Elementary, but School District 22 said the school did not have to be evacuated.

UPDATE
Crews are working on a fire at the Pinnacle Renewable Energy (pellet-making) plant in Lavington.
It broke out around 10:30 this morning on School Road with nearby residents reporting a big plume of white smoke.
The Lavington and Coldstream fire departments are on the scene.
Vernon Matters has a reporter headed to the scene, and has reached out to the company for information.
The Pinnacle facility also had an explosion and fire in May.

A big plume of smoke could be seen in Lavington just after 10:30 this morning.
Lavington’s fire chief told Vernon Matters he was on his way to check into the smoke.
It appears to be in the area of the Tolko mill or the Pinnacle pellet plant.
