‘I was in complete shock;’ scratch ticket nets $675,000

It was a Saturday morning Angela Gardner will never forget.

The Kamloops resident was listening to the radio and enjoying a morning coffee, when she realized she had won $675,000 after scratching three identical cash symbols on her Set for Life ticket.

“I turned to (my boyfriend) and said, ‘I think I won,’” Gardner said. “We checked the ticket on his Lotto! app. I called BCLC to see if this was real. I was in complete shock.”

Gardner purchased her ticket at McGoo’s Smokes N Stuff in Kamloops and claimed her Scratch & Win prize using BCLC’s alternate prize-claim process. She said winning means she will be able to travel in B.C. more, as well as undertake some home improvements.

“I’ve always wanted to have a swimming pool, and this will help make this a reality,” she said, adding she will also use the prize to save for her retirement.

Gardner said she hasn’t had time to celebrate yet, as she was getting ready for a visit to Vancouver Island.

“A few people have said I should buy a bottle of champagne,” she said. “We will probably have a family dinner.”
