Vernon embarks on tourism recovery plan
It’s hoped a $145,000 grant from the B.C. government can help woo tourists to Vernon.
Mayor Victor Cumming said Tourism Vernon was awarded the provincial funds which he believes are “really going to be helpful in our tourism recovery plan.”
Cumming said it will be challenging to restart the local tourism industry given the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent health restrictions have decimated tourism in B.C. and across Canada.
“In the past, our hotels were experiencing high occupancy rates and obviously that collapsed due to COVID-19. We also know that international travel has been significantly curtailed so that’s going to offer some very significant challenges for the tourism sector province-wide as well as in Vernon.”
