UPDATE:

Vernon RCMP are looking at evidence, including video and items left at the scene, following a vandalism spree in the city by a group of people early Sunday morning.

They are also appealing to the public for helping in finding the suspects.

Police say their officers responded to numerous reports of damage to property stretching from 27th Street to Alexis Park Drive.

The first call came in around 2:45 a.m. Sunday, after a sleeping resident heard glass breaking in the 4100 block of Alexis Park Drive.

“An officer attended to the area and found numerous incidents of vandalism and graffiti to residences and vehicles,” Cpl. Tania Finn, Vernon RCMP spokesperson, said. “All available officers descended on the area and determined the vandalism continued through the neighbourhood to a local secondary school.

“The damage included rocks thrown at windows, vehicles and buildings spray painted with racist and offensive language.”

Police patrols failed to find the suspects however surveillance video capturing suspects on camera has been passed on to the RCMP.

“In addition, the suspects left behind items at the various scenes and our investigators are working with our Integrated Forensic Identification Section to determine whether the items have any evidentiary value,” Finn said.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to contact Const. Paul Cooke of the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP, remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or leaving a tip online at www.nokscrimestoppers.com.

Original story:

Vernon RCMP have been given video of a group of people who allegedly went on a vandalism spree in the city early Sunday morning.

The manager of the Econo Lodge on 32nd Street said three guest vehicles, a window, a wall and a dumpster were spray painted with swear words.

She blames it on a group of young people seen in a hotel video that was passed to the police.

W.L. Seaton Secondary and Asian Avenue restaurant were also targeted.

A School District 22 spokesperson says painters were on-site at the school Monday to cover up the tagging.

“We are working with the RCMP to determine who may have done this,” said Lynn Jameson, executive assistant to the superintendent.

Meanwhile, a local woman posted a photo on Facebook of her husband’s truck covered in offensive language.

The RCMP have been asked for comment.
