Dr. Andrew K.S. Cheng

Dr. Andrew King Sing Cheng was born in Hong Kong on November 13, 1963. He enrolled at La Salle primary school until he immigrated with his family to Vancouver, Canada in 1972. There he went to Sir William Osler and Eric Hamber Secondary where he met many of his lifelong best friends.
After high school, Andrew enrolled at Queens University and University of Toronto graduating with a Bachelor of Arts and Science. He then studied Dentistry at University of Alberta where he graduated in 1989 setting in motion a 30 year career in dentistry and philanthropy. He opened several dental practices over the course of his life including ones in Burnaby, Squamish, Surrey, Vancouver and lastly in Tumbler Ridge, BC.
From 2010 – 2019, he organized and participated in Dental Missions to Bhutan, Guatemala, Thailand, Tibet and Bolivia. He and his team provided much needed dental care to the under privileged. He also spent time volunteering at a downtown Vancouver east side clinic where he provided dental work for some of the most destitute in the city.
In 2013, he was offered a summer teaching position at the UBC Dental School. He was honored to share his knowledge of dentistry with others and continued to mentor students on a part time basis over the next 7 years.
Andrew was an extremely generous and fun loving guy. His favorite pastimes were running, hiking, yoga, playing basketball with his brothers, watching sports and eating out with his family and friends. He also loved to travel and took pride that he had been to nearly every corner of the earth including Antarctica. He adored his daughter Isabel and would often take her on trips.
He passed away suddenly in a car accident on April 23, 2020 near 70 Mile House, BC.
He is survived by his children Isabel and James, brothers Ron (Julia), Stephen (Annie), sister Amy (Rusung), girlfriend Alison and his nieces and nephew – Joelle, Sara, Maddy, Megan, Audrey and Dylan.
Andrew was a shining light that touched so many lives from all parts of the world. He will be dearly missed by all of his good friends, cousins, uncles, aunts and work colleagues. For those whose lives have been blessed by his friendship we always will have the wonderful memories and guiding principles as Andrew’s lasting gift.
