New lane at landfill aims to improve traffic flow
The Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) has come up with a way to reduce the lineups at the Greater Vernon landfill.
As part of the recent entrance upgrade at the diversion and disposal facility on Birnie Road, a second entrance lane was added just for approved commercial haulers.
Mike Fox, general manager of community services at RDNO, said the change will take effect May 14.
“The main benefit of the new lane is that commercial waste haulers that have been approved for the program will not have to go through the regular public lanes,” Fox said. “This will reduce traffic in the main lane and is expected to help both commercial and residential customers access the site more quickly.”
