Some families missed

Students get set to go back to school ‘at home’

Teachers and school administrators have been contacting local students and their families since last week, but some have been harder to reach.

“The purpose [of the call] was to reconnect with your child and family and to ask how you are doing, and how we can help,” District 22 Superintendent Joe Rogers said in a video message.

According to the Vernon School District, some of the homes didn’t have up to date phone numbers or emails, so they are asking any families not contacted to reach out to their school and update their information.

The district is sharing laptop computers with any student that needs one for remote learning opportunities.

“Our tech department has been refurbishing laptops to share with students that require one. If your child requires a laptop, please email your principal. Laptops will be distributed at schools later this week,” Rogers said.

He added teachers will be sending learning opportunities home this week and connecting with students.

“Teachers will be providing ways for students to request assistance when they are stuck on an assignment or need help,” the superintendent added.

School-based resource teachers and support staff will also be contacting students.

School principals will be contacting students to let them know when they can pickup their personal belongings and school supplies.

The district is also continuing to provide the food programs students received prior to spring break.

Last week, Kalamalka Rotary dropped off the weekend food students received from the Starfish Backpack program, and this week, with a partnership from Venture Training, lunches will be provided for over 200 students.
