Spallumcheen’s Mayor Christine Fraser issued a statement, asking the public to only attend the township’s office for main services and that all bill payments be provided through the mail slot in an envelope that includes the resident’s name, address, phone number and invoice number with your form of payment.

“It is important that at this time we do everything in our power to support our seniors and those at risk of contracting the virus,” Fraser said. “The Township has taken this matter very seriously and would like to communicate with our residents that at this time we will remain open for mandatory services only.”

The directive went into effect on Tuesday.

In a release issued Wednesday, the township clarified that its office would be remotely open for business, but was restricting public access to the municipal hall.

It said staff are in the office and available by phone, fax and email.

Essential services that require public interaction will be considered by appointment only.

Any non-essential services that require interaction with residents will be suspended until further notice.

It was business as usual in the City of Armstrong on Wednesday although CAO Kevin Bertles said the situation was being reviewed “day by day.”

The North Okanagan Regional District remains open with regular hours and all services while senior officials monitor events.

“We recognize that this is a rapidly changing situation, and we are monitoring updates closely,” Kevin Acton, chair of the RDNO board of directors, said. “We are taking our direction from the provincial and federal authorities, and will continue to update the public on any organizational changes.”

He said enhanced sanitation measures have been adopted at all work sites.

Board and committee meetings are planned to go ahead as usual.

Extra hand sanitizer and social distancing techniques will be in practice, such as avoiding handshakes.

For anyone wishing to avoid in-person visits to the RDNO office, you can call the main number at 250-550-3700 or email info@rdno.ca or visit the website at www.rdno.ca. Those who are not feeling well are asked to stay away.

The Village of Lumby has been contacted about its plans but has not returned a call.
