Community Expo back for second year

Mar 9, 2020 | 1:24 PM

The second annual Greater Vernon Community Expo will have more than 90 exhibitors at Kal Tire Place North this Saturday.

Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce General Manager Dione Chambers said the event, presented by Lake City Casino and Match Eatery & Public House, allows residents to find out what the community has to offer, with something for everyone.

“We are overwhelmed by the positive response to Expo and the variety of exhibitors – business, nonprofit, education and government – is impressive,” Chambers said.

Tolko, KingFisher Boats and Piscine Energetics will provide information on employment opportunities while local students can learn more about Okanagan College, the Vernon School District and Thompson Rivers University.

A full list of vendors can be found here.

Chambers said Expo is also about family fun and there will be face painting by Kiki the Eco Elf while The Bug Guys and Allan Brooks Nature Centre will be on site with hands-on activities. You can also climb on to a Zamboni and post your photo to social media, while RCMP and Vernon Fire Rescue vehicles are expected to be there for show and tell.

From 9 to 11 a.m., the Vernon Lions Club will host a pancake breakfast ($7 per plate) and proceeds will go to Lions’ charities.

There will be a number of door prizes including a chance to win a Halcyon Hot Springs package and a SilverStar package.

“Community spirit is strong in the North Okanagan and that passion will be front and centre for all to see at Community Expo. We encourage our friends and neighbours to stop by and say hello,” Chambers said.

It’s free to get in, with the Expo running from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 14.
