Road clean-up starts in Vernon

Mar 5, 2020 | 1:02 PM

The annual job of cleaning the road grit off Vernon streets has begun.

The city said sweepers have been deployed for the last two weeks, and crews are preparing full spring sweeping program.

“The City of Vernon uses street sweepers when possible throughout the entire year,” Christy Poirier, manager of communications and grants with the city told Vernon Matters. “Sweepers were out as early as February this year, in preparation for the Winter Carnival events, and have since continued sweeping when possible.”

The sweeping will clean-up road traction material, and help reduce the amount of road dust in the air which has been the cause of several air quality advisories over the last month.

“The city is asking residents for their assistance during the spring cleanup by ensuring vehicles are parked off roadways where possible, while crews are in the area. We appreciate the public’s patience and assistance during the cleanup process,” Poirier added.
