Vernon drug house put out of business

Mar 4, 2020 | 1:43 PM

A suspected Vernon drug house was shut down with one man facing trafficking charges.

Police said the house in the 3400 block of 32nd Avenue, just west of the Beach Radio building, was the focus of numerous complaints about suspected drug dealing and other activity.

“The investigation led to the arrest of a 31-year-old Vernon male for the possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking,” Const. Kelly Brett, RCMP media relations officer, said. “Following his arrest, a search warrant was executed at the problem premise which was occupied by seven people. Search of the location resulted in the seizure of evidence relating to drug trafficking.”

Witnesses say police arrived at the house with their guns drawn and also had a police dog team on hand.

Brett added another search warrant was used at a local hotel room which resulted in the seizure of additional evidence related to drug trafficking including quantities of suspected fentanyl, methamphetamine and Canadian currency.

“The arrested male was released from custody to face potential charges of possession for purpose of trafficking on a future court date,” Brett said.

The residence was deemed unfit for habitation and will not be occupied until conditions are improved.

“This is the seventh search warrant targeting street level drug trafficking houses in the past year and a half,” RCMP Sgt. David Evans of the Targeted Policing Unit said. “Our detachment is committed to targeting drug trafficking at all levels to enhance public safety in the community. When houses are set up for the purpose of street level drug trafficking, they will be targeted by officers, including execution of search warrants by our team.”
