Armstrong targets 4.98 per cent tax hike

Feb 25, 2020 | 4:11 PM

Armstrong council has given preliminary approval for a tax hike of just under five per cent.

The proposed figure is 4.98 per cent after Monday’s council meeting, which will translate to $47 dollars for the average homeowner.

The bylaw has been given three readings, meaning it needs just final approval.

Mayor Chris Pieper says 2.48 per cent will be for operations with the other 2.5 per cent for roads and drainage infrastructure projects.

“We worked it hard to try and get it under five per cent,” Pieper told Vernon Matters.” It’s still a significant increase, but it’s part of doing business in today’s society and making sure we’ve got everything in fairly good shape.”

The financial plan could get fourth and final reading from council next month.
